Parksville Legion Mt Arrowsmith Branch 49 held a flag raising ceremony to launch its annual poppy campaign last Friday.
The event was attended by outgoing Parksville Mayor Marc Lefebvre, Courtenay-Alberni MP Gord Johns and Tamara Rooke, who represented Parskville-Qualicum MLA Michelle Stilwell, who wasn’t able to attend. Also present was Salvation Army pastor Maj. Norm Hamelin and Navy officer Lt(N) Aaron Remisch.
President of Branch 49, Dave Dollis said that this was an important event for the legion.
“The poppy campaign is our biggest fundraiser,” said Dollis. “Without it we would be able to help fund community events and help veterans. We take this very seriously.”
The poppy campaign will go on from Oct. 26 until the Nov. 11 Remembrance Day ceremony in Parksville.
